![]() Because your power usage alone is mninimal enough to really say anything worthwhile to say about it. ![]() ![]() But if your resouce usage is THAT low on both systems I wouldn't really cite that as a valid reason to use a distro. But so far I'm liking the more granular control sysv seems to give over systemd. I'm going to run it a while and see how it does at full load, retainging boot order, etc. Any differences of also just be the hardware I'm running (devuan is on a scandick ssd and debian on a crucial one) or that I started the debian at 10 and upgraded to 11 when it released. It's a nominal difference of a few MB of ram and a little of CPU, Devuan did seem to boot faster, though I didn't run any actual time tests and it could be placebo or maybe Debian was confused by updated graphics car d I put in since switching (don't know and don't care honestly). Several things like syslogd, collectd, rrdcached were running on debian using up resources. Only portainer and their respective webguis running and the rest of the system at idle (15 min after boot) But I do h ave the old drive so I'll put it in for you. Not sure why you seem upset or don't believe my usage results on here I only asked for recommendations for a software and I've been running Unix based servers a long long time (well before systemd). Ok, so what's the actual resource usage difference? And we're you using Debian/Debian 10 or 11? I have a gutted Dell Precision T3500 (open air because I haven't bought a 3U/4U case for it yet. The manga and anime runs 24/7 (well all the docker stuff runs 24/7 but is only used on occasion, like once a month but starting and stopping it when needed I forget to do so just leaving them on 24/7 is what I do). Along with ripping the CDS and blurays, it can also take a while to download all my Audible/kindle books/comics and remove the DRM and it unfortunately isn't able to be automated (that I know of at least) so those get tossed onto the server in batches as well. I rip everything on my main PC and move them to the server in batches. Main: Samba, nfs, Docker, nups (network ups monitor thing)ĭockers: portainer, watchtower, emby/jellyfin (my jellyfin was was having issues that I couldn't immediately solve so I switched to emby until I could fix it), pihole, sonarr/radarr (for unlicensed anime and organizing DVD/blu-ray rips), bazarr (subtitles finding), prowlarr, nzbhydra, jackett, transmission, openvpn, 2x instances Planar Ally for d&d, beets & lidarr (CD tracking and organizing), readarr, Calibre, Calibre-web (ebooks removing drm, tracking, organizing), 4x websites (heimdal, whoogle, family genealogy, offline wiki), tachidesk, mangatagger & fmd (getting unlicensed manga the organizing), comixed/alfred (organize comics purchased after removing drm well trying to use them, not very straight forward programs), JDownloader (easy to send links to the server from on the road), Tdarr (coverting media to h265/nvec but had it off because of Nvidia issues I couldn't solve yet), Kavita & Komga for serving a and manga, Navidrome, Booksonic, and unifi protect video backup (runs nightly). It's not a huge difference but on idle with dockers stopped Devuan uses a bit less of everything. ![]() Can you share the list of services you were running?
